Handkerchief Invites

SDBride over at Tulle and Feathers has seriously floored me with her creative expertise. She designed her own Anthro-esque invitations on handkerchiefs (yes, handkerchiefs) and they are divine!

Screened with freezer paper, adorned with a vintage gold charm, and nestled into colorful envelopes complete with vintage stamps, I am definitely filing this invitation idea under 'coolest things ever'.

Check them out here.

On the Radar: Weddzilla.com

I'm sure many of you have now heard of Weddzilla.com. I am in no way affiliated, but was curious to learn more about their objective here in the wedding marketplace. At first I thought they were going to be another 'Knot', but I read this on Younoodle Startups and it actually sounds pretty neat:

"Weddzilla was created by a bride, for future brides, with one thing in mind: to simplify the planning of their most important day. Finding the right advice, vendors, pricing, and information in one place is difficult. Utilizing the power of social networking, brides and vendors can come together and interact in a fresh and innovative way.

Let us do the work for you.

Weddzilla allows vendors to be pro-active, NOT re-active. Not only can vendors browse for brides based on their budget and zip code, but we also notify you whenever a new bride is ready to start planning her big day.

Brides are talking- be a part of the conversation.

The Weddzilla community is a forum for engaging brides’ family and friends in the planning process. The Maid-of-Honor can scope out the bridesmaid dresses. Mom can search through the flower arrangement options. And everyone can give feedback... all in one place."

So there you have it. I take it back; they won't be another Knot. And don't get me wrong... I love The Knot. But Weddzilla seems like a refreshing new concept.

Speaking of their website launch, I also learned that Weddzilla is having a Launch Party in DC on February 25th. So to anyone in DC... Can you please go so I can live vicariously through you? Thanks.

Here is the invite:

Trend: Incorporating Wood into your Wedding Details

As a form of uniquity and a nod to eco-chic, wood is proving to be a welcomed trend in the world of weddings. From stationery to floral arrangements, wood is being used in its most organic element.

The following are some great ways you can embrace the romance and uniquity that wood conveys.

Stationery
To me, the concept of writing on wood hits a romantic note, as it reminds me of the days when couples used to carve their love for one another inside a heart on a tree.

'First Love' wood invitation, $5.50, baumbirdy

Wood custom programs, $100 for 7, coconutrobot

Escort Cards
When escort cards are made of wood, they prove to be too pretty to slip into a purse. Instead, they are placed on the dinner table as an extension of the table decor. In addition, there's something so permanent about writing a guest's name on wood; it's like calling them a friend for life.

Wood veneer escort cards, Papier Valise

Wood escort cards, Craftzine

Florals
In the form of pinecones, wood can be a natural replacement or addition to florals. Not only do they represent a bloom in their natural design, they keep their shape and do not wilt as flowers do.

Pinecone Boutonniere, The Orange Blossom

Pinecone Garland, Twig & Thistle

Dessert Presentation
The naturally round shape and sturdiness of wood rounds make them a great option for dessert presentation, as they replicate serving plates. Wooden utensils add a charming, rustic touch to any dessert or ice cream buffet.

Rustic Cakestand, Craftzine

Fall-themed dessert buffet featuring faux bois, Amy Atlas

Wooden utensils, $5.90 for 100, Can-Do Chefs

Centerpieces

Wood rounds make perfect platforms for table decor, as they can be used in varying heights, sizes, and numbers. A handmade pinecone flower adds softness. Birch bark is very pliable and therefore a great medium for wrapping floral vases.

Wooden centerpiece, Design Sponge

Birch bark tubes, Small Stump + Studio Choo

I still can't get over this gorgeous paper tablescape by Emersonmade. The runner is made of craft paper, and the flowers are handmade of fabric. I would love to see this done for a bridal shower. Can someone please re-create this so I can live vicariously through you? Thanks.

PS - Did I mention that red, rose, peach, and cream is my favorite color combo right now?

A Rustic Day of Shell and Gray

This charming wedding was truly a work of family and friends coming together for a greater cause. Friends of the bride and groom helped create the decor, while the photography was donated by a friend.

And on a budget of a mere $2k, the couple still decided to use a wedding planner. As the pictures illustrate, it was a decision well-made.
